Love to Homer:

We lost our beloved cat, Homer, on March 9th 2016.  It has been a difficult and emotional time to except the realization that he is not here with us anymore.  He came into our lives 14 years ago as our first pet.  He began his life as an injured kitten abandoned at someone’s doorstep.  He was lucky to be brought into the local vet’s office, who accepted him and offered him up for adoption.  We were the lucky ones to find him there.  A sweet boy with a unique personality who had a special way of communicating with us.  Calling his name always produced a short meow sounding like he was asking a question.

He always greeted us at the door when we came home and happily made himself comfortable on our laps and on our bed every night.  After never being sick, he suddenly showed us signs last month that he wasn’t feeling well.  After several trips to the vet, an ultrasound revealed a mass on his pancreas.  The prognosis was grave but medication allowed him to have two good weeks before his abdomen filled with fluid.  On the day we decided it was time to let him go, we carried him around the house to show him for the last time all his special spots.  We laid him on the couch in his favorite blanket and told him we loved him.

He looked up at us and started to purr for the first time in 4 days.  We knew he was telling us he understood and loved us too and it was time to let him go. We will miss him for the rest of our lives but will always be grateful that we were given the opportunity to love and care for him.
